Valley Pawn, the largest, most exciting pawn shop in the Southwest, is seeking a full-time Customer Service Pawnbroker. Pawnbrokers are the backbone of our business. The right candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and analytical skills. Pawnbrokers set the standard of our merchandise for resale and must always operate with Valley Pawn's mission in mind: Unmatched customer service retail experience based around value and quality products we can stand behind!

Pawnbrokers provide short-term loans (legally binding contracts) to customers in exchange for valuable items such as jewelry, electronics, and musical instruments. In this role, pawnbrokers estimate an item's value based on retail prices or market values, offering customers cash while holding the items as collateral.

Being a Valley Pawn associate in any position requires strong customer service skills and ability to use self-control and common sense when dealing with the public.

Duties and responsibilities

Include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure Valley Pawn Values, Code of Conduct, Company Vision and Mission are being practiced and enforced by all employees at all times
  • Help promote a positive company culture and work environment.
  • Provide Outstanding Customer Service/De-escalation/Calming demeanor
  • Pawn and buy items from customers
  • Research items to ensure Valley Pawn standards of pricing
  • Maintain an accurate cash drawer
  • Fully explain all loan terms to customers and ensure they are understood
  • Ensure information about items we take is accurately recorded in our software
  • Fully test all items to ensure functionality and resale ability
  • Monitor front waiting/sales area to ensure safety of both customers and merchandise
  • Other duties as assigned

 Qualifications

  • 18 years or older
  • Able to pass a criminal background check
  • Strong desire to work, serve customers and work with people; team oriented
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Cash handling experience
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent work ethic and strong business sense
  • Computer literate and able to use common office machines 

Working conditions

Primarily indoors. Pawnbrokers may be asked to assist a customer on the exterior of the building (within our parking lots) or to retrieve products stored in exterior storage buildings or other areas.

Physical requirements

Lifting/Carrying - Due to the nature of the pawn industry, the types of products and materials that may be lifted, carried or handled during a work shift varies from day-to-day and week-to-week. On average, a pawn shop employee will handle jewelry, firearms, tools, bicycles, and electronics (stereo, televisions, and speakers) on a daily basis. The frequency of these lifts and the weight of the items handled will also vary. Employees may not lift or carry products or materials above their safe lifting and carrying amounts, or above any medical restriction.  Carts and dollies are used to limit and assist in the carrying distance of any product.

Standing - Required for long periods. Tool Usage - Tools are used on a regular or routine basis during a normal workday.
